![]() 2011 SCIENCE SUMMER CAMP JULY Summer Science camp for kids begins Monday July 11th -August 4th Attention 1st through 8th graders!! The museum is offering various sessions designed especially for you. Join us in six different fun filled sessions exploring the world of science and history. (Space is limited to 25 students per session.) JULY 11-14 SESSION 1a: The World of Animals – Explore the Wild Kingdom of Predators and Prey. Learn how they live and survive. Presented by D. Busse; Level: 4th to 8th (Session 1a). JULY 11-14 SESSION 1b: Jr. Naturalist – Learn all about Animals, their habitats and food sources. Explore the world of insects, spiders, plants and all the great things you can find outside. Presented by C. Villasenor; Level: 1st to 3rd (Session 1b). JULY 18-21 SESSION 2a: Sharks! The Big the Bad and the Ugly – Learn all about modern and prehistoric sharks. Presented by S. Bennett “the sharkman” Level: 4th to 8th (Session 2a). JULY 18-21 SESSION 2b: Exploring Marine Life – Learn about all types of Marine life; sharks, fish whales, dolphins what they eat and how they live. Level 1st to 3rd (Session 2b). JULY 25-28, SESSION 3a: Geology and Paleontology: learn all about the earth and its treasures of rocks, minerals, gemstones & fossils. Where can these natural wonders be found & how did they get there? Why are they important to our future? Kern County is home to hills with shark teeth & other marine and land animal fossils. What do they look like and how are they different from animals today? Why does the Earth have volcanoes, earthquakes, & tsunamis? What are dinosaurs and where can dinosaur fossils be found? Discussion & fun hands-on activities. Presented by geologist T. Elam; Level: 4th to 8th (Session 3a). JULY 25-28, SESSION 3b: Fun with Dinosaurs and Geology - With Special Guest Mr. Dinosaur! Learn all about Geology, Paleontology and the famous Dinosaurs and how they changed our earth. Where did they go? Why they are not here today? Presented by Harold Sugden and Travis Bibee; Level 1st to 3rd (Session 3b). AUGUST 1-4: SESSION 4a: All the Science That Used to Be – Filled with fun, crazy and wild and weird Science Projects Presented by D. Hanely” aka Dr. Dave ; Level: 4th grade to 8th grade. (Session 4a). AUGUST 1-4: SESSION 4b: Lost Arts and Science – How were things made years ago? How rope, twine and yarn were made? How the foods we like to eat were discovered? Level: 1st grade to 3rd grade. (Session 4b). Sessions run Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Cost - $80.00 (Members of the Museum $70.00) per student/per session. Mid-morning snack, Camp T-Shirt and materials included. Sign-up and pay for 2 sessions to receive a $5 discount.* *Discount is per child sign-up.
